4 things that happened while you were busy

1 Google's Genie 4 lets you steer an AI-generated world as it forms
Google DeepMind unveiled Genie 4, a model that builds interactive 3D worlds in real time with realistic physics and matching sound. You keep prompting to explore and change the scene, while Gemini 3.8 Flash plans the next steps and checks each frame. Scenes reportedly hold together for about two minutes before drifting. Sundar Pichai says it's rolling out first to trusted testers as a research preview, and it's coming to Google AI Ultra subscribers. API and AI Studio partners can join the waitlist.
Google is pitching it for games, learning, and robotics, where teams can test agents in a simulation before using them in the real world. It's not the only new world model: SpAItial AI's Echo-3 builds 3D spaces from phone scans of real rooms.
2 Anthropic says Claude is speeding up drug discovery
Anthropic is working on new medicines with six partners, including Bristol Myers Squibb. In its early results, Anthropic says Claude helped Generate Biomedicines design a more effective part of a cancer therapy and cut Enveda's document review time by 89%. So far, most of Claude's work has been in the earliest stages of drug development.
3 ChatGPT now works with your iCloud Mail and Calendar
ChatGPT can now search your iCloud email and manage your calendar, on every plan. To set it up, go to Settings > Plugins, install iCloud Mail and iCloud Calendar, and sign in to each with an Apple app-specific password.
4 Liquid AI's new agent models are small enough for your phone
Liquid AI released LFM3, six open-weight models for text, vision, audio, and decisions. Each has about 2B parameters and can be fine-tuned on a single GPU. The company says its 1GB text model beats the larger Qwen3.5-9B on browser and business-app tasks, though it's weaker at agentic coding and general knowledge. See the use cases and docs.
Apple's new MacBook Pro, iMac, and iPad mini are built for on-device AI

Ahead of its Pro and Tell event, Apple released three new devices. Pre-orders are open now, and they ship November 6.
14-inch MacBook Pro. The new MacBook Pro runs on the M6 chip, with graphics up to 30% faster than before and more Neural Accelerators to speed up local AI. Battery life reaches 24 hours, and a fast charger gets it from 0% to 50% in 30 minutes. It starts at $1,999. One catch for AI users: memory tops out at 32GB, so it's best for smaller local models.
iMac. The new iMac also gets M6 and macOS 27 with the new Siri and Apple Intelligence. Apple says on-device AI runs up to 5x faster and graphics up to 2x faster than on M4. It comes in seven colors with a 24-inch 4.5K display.
iPad mini. Apple calls it the iPad's biggest update ever. The new iPad mini has an 8.5-inch OLED screen that's twice as bright at its peak, resists spills and dust, and uses the A20 Pro chip, which runs AI features up to 4.5x faster than the last model.
Why it matters. Apple is betting that more AI will run on your own device instead of in the cloud. The new Macs also arrive alongside Apple's latest software update, which adds new Siri AI features.
Why an Anthropic manager stopped testing candidates on code

The decision. Anthropic engineering manager Felix Rieseberg dropped coding interviews from his team's hiring. Claude can already solve the React and assembly problems candidates were asked to work through, so the test no longer tells him much.
What changed. Interviews used to predict who would do well on the team. Now some of the best engineers succeed no matter how they scored. Newer engineers are moving faster than experienced ones: two of them built a working visual interface for Claude Code over a weekend, and the team shipped the first public version eight days later.
What he looks for now. Small, working prototypes that show taste, empathy, and good judgment. His advice to junior engineers, in his full essay: build each prototype around one strong idea.
Why it matters. If AI can pass the test, hiring has to measure something else. For anyone job hunting, a working project may now say more than a whiteboard answer.

🔎 Discord Goes Public. Starting in mid-December, messages from public Discord servers can show up in Google search. It's on by default for U.S. adults, but you can turn it off in your privacy settings (5.6M views).
🚚 Highway Robbery. Thieves have stolen an estimated $100M in equipment from trucks headed to data centers, using AI-written phishing, fake licenses, and GPS spoofing.
🛍 Life-Changing Buys. Growth marketer Emily Lai used AI to sort 1,500 replies to a viral thread, then built a site of life-changing products under $250.
💼 A Job Search Helper. A developer built Dossier for his wife's job search. The free, open-source tool tailors resumes and cover letters using only facts from your profile, and tracks every application (15K bookmarks).
🎯 Focus Dock. Thariq Shihipar, who just left his engineering role at Anthropic, shared an AI-powered Mac dock with focus modes for writing and building (4.2K bookmarks).
🛡 Defending With Agents. Alan Wells explains how his three-person team fought off a week-long cyberattack using a cloud coding server with read-only access to logs (3.3K bookmarks).
🧩 Too Many Subagents. Addy Osmani says to ask what problem a new subagent solves before adding one. Often a bloated system prompt is the real issue (1K bookmarks).
🗣 Know Your Field. Matt Pocock used one technical term, "fricative," and his AI agent found a better approach for his video editor. It shows why your own expertise still matters (1.4K likes).
😂 Corporate Satire. Peter Girnus, whose Copilot rollout parody drew 26M views last year, is back with a new one about AI security (1.5M views).
