TODAY'S BIG STORIES

1  Subvocal's glasses let you talk to AI without making a sound

Founder Aarush Yadav unveiled Subvocal, glasses that use radar to read the tiny muscle movements when you silently mouth words, then turn them into text at more than 200 words a minute. You can use them to dictate, prompt an AI, or hold a silent conversation with another wearer. The startup has raised $1.3M from Y Combinator and Afore Capital, pre-orders are open, and the launch post passed 11M views.

2  Google's satellite answers its first AI prompt from orbit

As part of Project Suncatcher, Google's plan for data centers in space, an orbiting TPU replied to its first prompt with a haiku, generated by an onboard Gemma 4 model and received over Svalbard, Norway. Sundar Pichai called it a "hello world" moment (3.6M views). The prototype launched October 1. Heat and radiation tests come next, followed by two linked satellites in 2027.

3  Claude renames its plans and drops the 5-hour limit for Ultra

Anthropic renamed its top plans: Max 5x ($100 a month) is now simply Max, and Max 20x ($200 a month) is now Ultra. Verified Ultra subscribers no longer face the 5-hour usage limit. Separately, to comply with EU rules, Anthropic will start watermarking text from Claude Mythos 5, Opus 4.7, Opus 4.6, and Sonnet 4.6, and newer models will be marked too. See the pricing page for details.

4  A startup that studies living neurons launches a cheap video model

The Biological Computing Company says four years of research on living brain cells shaped its first model, Mischief 1. It costs half a cent per second of video, and the company claims it's the cheapest image-to-video model on fal and OpenRouter. You can try it here.

5  India proposes sending AI models to the data, not the other way around

India's IT ministry has floated a plan where hospitals, banks, and government agencies keep anonymized, encrypted data on exchange platforms, and AI builders train inside secure hardware. Data owners set the rules, and privacy tools limit what a model can learn about any one person. Health, finance, and education come first, including credit access for about 400 million underserved people and small businesses.

THE WEB'S TRAFFIC PROBLEM

Google's AI Mode sends Reddit zero traffic, and Reddit's stock paid for it

The admission. On Reddit's earnings call, CEO Steve Huffman said Google's AI Mode no longer sends Reddit traffic, adding that he doesn't believe it sends traffic to anyone else either. Reddit's stock fell about 30%.

The damage. Reddit is losing an average of 1M search visits a week and expects that to continue. Its answer is to eventually require users to log in to see content.

Google feels it too. Google says AI Mode searches bring in less ad revenue than regular search. Its search revenue growth slowed from 17% to 12%, even though searches hit a five-year high.

The winner. Meta, which doesn't rely on Google for traffic, saw revenue jump 26% last quarter and credits AI for better ad performance.

Why it matters. If your website depends on Google search, AI answers may send you fewer visitors over time. Building your own audience, like an email list, matters more than ever.

THE AI CONVERSATION TODAY

What's trending on socials and in the headlines
